    Mad Friday

Actually today is Saturday, and Mad Friday is done and dusted.

Just what exactly is Mad Friday?  Well, in Scotland it's the Friday before Christmas and folks go to the pubs en masse for holiday cheer.  Soooo...we did our part by strolling down to  one of the neighborhood bars, The Stardust, for some of that cheer.  What a great time we had, just the two of us, Dave with his beer and me with my tequila sunrises.  Lots of regulars, a nice spread of food, decent music, friendly bartenders.  We did manage to weave our way home later and today have been recuperating and being kind to ourselves.

Hibbing is no Edinburgh, but we are trying to keep a Scottish holiday season as best we can.  Our plans for Monday are to  indulge our inner children with opening presents in the morning and then doing team cooking in preparing our Christmas dinner.  There again, it will be a blending of Scottish and American traditions...turkey, stuffing, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and so on.

Although snow has been in the forecast off and on, we have had none really since Paul left on December 1.  In fact, what there is on the ground is slowly melting.  Temps have been extremely mild here, yesterday especially.  Dave has been out on the roads breaking in his new fixed gear bike and has logged the most December miles since around year 2000.  Really boggles the mind...out on the roads in December in northern Minnesota!

We are hopeful there will eventually be enough snow to try cross country skiing.  Surely that will come about in January or February.

We hope you and yours are enjoying a safe and peaceful holiday season and that you are by now tucked up snug wherever you will be spending your holiday.  We are...no plans to get out for the next several days except to "skate" across the alley to the wee store for a newspaper tomorrow.

    Catch ya later!

    It's Been A While

Yes, it has been a while hasn't it?

November was a busy time after returning from Texas.  Seems like I just barely turned around and it was time for Paul to be here.  Paul is Dave's youngest son, 25, who came over from Scotland to spend about 10 days with us around Thanksgiving.  As soon as I got back from Texas, we began preparing in earnest for Paul's arrival and then WOW! before we knew it he was here!

Goodness, we had such a wonderful time with Paul.  I'm new at this stepmom stuff, but it sure is a wonderful thing.  Can you imagine?  Me with such fine lads as Paul and Ian to call family.  As it was our first Thanksgiving here in the States, I prepared a relatively traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the guys.  Hadn't dont that in ages, but it was great fun.  The days flew by too quickly and soon Paul was winging his way back home across The Big Pond.  The house sure seemed quiet after he left.

The weather was positively brilliant while Paul was here and, wouldn't you know it, the day he left it started snowing.  And snowing.    It's not really that bad yet, just about four inches on the ground right now.  I've added some photos we took this morning while out clearing the walks.

Today was spent updating my Reiki Web presence at http://reikiwarmhands.com.  There are a couple of new pages about the LAF LiveSTRONG Summit and a page of some of my favorite reads.  There is also an Amazon.com search tool on the home page in case you are starting (or finishing) Christmas shopping!

Dave and Paul strung outside lights last week and we will put up our little tree after the Reiki class I'm teaching next weekend.  That class should be a fun one,  with five students scheduled to be here.

Well, it's back to work for real tomorrow, so I think I'll toddle off for now.

    Peace, strength, love, and light!
