July 30 Mondays Come Too QuicklyIt is just about the end of another weekend. I played hooky this weekend and didn't work. Should have, but I've been missing my "Dave time" and my "me time." Hard to say exactly where the weekends go, tho.
Today we did go to Side Lake and the McCarthy Beach State Park. NICE. I definitely want to go camping there. Very wooded campsites and the lake is nice. We walked through some of the campground area, shared an apple, and then went over to the beach. Took off our socks and shoes and waded out a bit into the water, which was rather warm. One can walk out from shore quite a distance with the water only being just about knee height. There are some photos from our little outing today.
Ah well...it's on to Monday tomorrow. It's forecast to be absolutely bloody hot...close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit...hard to fathom it being that warm as today was almost pleasant, in the upper 80s to low 90s. We had a rather wild storm last night...quite a light show and some very loud thunder.
I'd be happy if it snowed a foot tomorrow.
Have a groovy Monday!
July 27 Reiki I/II WorkshopLooks like I'll be conducting a Reiki I/II workshop in Texas...here's the info:

Peace, strength, love, and light!
July 26 July TwilightYes, it's the twilight of July...the photos I've added tonight were taken yesterday evening. There was a storm brewing just around sunset. The end of the month is coming in the next few days. It's been a crazy month.
I had taken on some new duties with my work and that has turned out to be very stressful...I seem to have temporarily misplaced my personal life!
We ventured down to The Twin Cities last week as part of the immigration process...I REALLY do not miss living in a big city. Took us almost three hours to get out of the big city traffic on our way headed north back home. Of course, it turned out we were leaving right in rush hour. Again...
I did visit briefly with a published author at a recent festival here. He gave me a few practical pointers about self-publishing, etc. Right. So I asked him where he found the time to write his book....oh great...an hour of creative thinking in the morning and then a few hours in his writer's studio in the afternoon/evening. Right. Yeah. I can do that. In my wildest fantasies.
Perhaps someday, eh? Or not.
The weather has been bloody hot here, as it apparently is all over the globe. There were unseasonably hot days during Le Tour (congrats Floyd Landis!) and even Scotland is having a warm summer. Thank goodness for basements! I'm ready for snow. Bring it on, baby. Subzero temps? I love it.
Global warming is here, like it or not.
It's a strange time for me right now. Kinda in turmoil, need to find my personal life again to spend more time with my amazing Scotsman, get my arse on the bike, yoga, meditation, and creative things like this journal.
Everything in its season and a season for everything. I know, I know. Patience is not my middle name.
Looking at it realistically, we have done so much in the span of about five months...returned from Scotland, got married, moved, taken care of a LOT of immigration-related things, I changed jobs, had a breast cancer recurrence scare, have taught some Reiki classes, taken a couple of trips (one for fun and one on biz)....WHEW! No wonder my little soul is tired these days.
I'm headed to Texas in October to spend some time with my mom and it looks like I'll teach a Reiki class while there. I had planned on attending an LAF 3-day advocacy training workshop....unfortunately, it looks like that may be a no-go due to timing. I have to make the Texas trip and figure it's better to teach to help defray the cost of the trip. Making the LAF meeting would stretch out my trip to an unacceptable length of time...nuts.
I am really saddened by this but just can't see any way around it at this point in time. I guess, tho', it's just another phase of my life that is past. My life has changed/is changing and some things were just part of that other life.
Don't get me wrong...I still Wear Yellow and Live Strong and will do whatever I can for the LAF when feasible...hard to describe....there's this need in me to do that...as a survivor to give something back....that's a common feeling among survivors...and the LAF is "my" thing. But...again...
It was part of the life I led when I was walking alone. These days I share literally a new life with this so-wonderful man. Goodness knows he's given up so much to start a new life with me and I lay to rest the things I need to from that other life, and do so willingly.
It's hard sometimes, though. Oh well, who knows? October is a ways off... and things work out the way they are meant to be. There's some groovy energy working on this trip...neat things happening....so....guess I'll just envision what would be the most groovy outcome and we'll see what happens!
Life is darn good. Really am content...a contentment I never knew was possible.
So excuse my ramblings...I miss visiting with you here. Maybe I'll get started on that book on my trip to Texas....
Meanwhile, enjoy the new photos and may the Wind be always at your back!
July 09 Post-Race RecapWe're home again after a really good stay in Stanley, Wisconsin.
Race results - Dave was 17 in a field of 114!!! WHOOHOO! Can the man ride or what?!?!?! Of course, I'd be proud of him no matter what, but I'm so pleased he did well for his sake. I tell ya what folks, the man is F A S T on a bike!
I was so proud to be there with him, to support him, to see him race, to wait at the finish for him, to ring the cow bell, and see him S W O O S H by me across the finish line! So proud to share this weekend with him...to be the one putting his number on his TT bike, to give him water at the start...checking the results board with him afterwards...seeing his name posted on it...so proud.
We met so many friendly people this weekend, at the hotel last evening and this morning and then at the race itself...prerace chatting and afterwards visiting with some folks. We parked in a shady spot, so got out the camp chairs afterwards and enjoyed the day and the conversation while awaiting the posting of the results.
We're planning on returning to this event next year, making it a longer getaway...perhaps going down Friday and coming back Monday. I was wishing I had my bike to toodle around on...perhaps even ride the course...whatever. I had thought about taking it, but decided against it...this was Dave's weekend.
Well, I'm in need of a shower, perhaps a snack, and then bed.
Wow...I'm a racer's wife! How cool is that?
Pre-Race MusingsJuly 9, 2006
So here it is Race Day! I’m typing this on the hood of the car….wait…think I’ll go sit in the back….Yep, this is much better!
Dave is on the turbo warming up and I’m just playing! Did some filming with the Webcam but it’s gonna be tough to do that at the start and finish I’m afraid. I have to let Dave know when it’s a bit before noon….he’s off at just few minutes past noon.
It’s a brilliant day…sunny….a bit of a breeze but not bad and it actually feels good. I’m glad he’s towards the front of the field, as it is gonna be a hot one!
We’ve met some really nice folks here and there this weekend. Saw one guy walking along wearing a yellow LiveSTRONG t-shirt. He was in the audience of the Oprah show when Lance was there once and the audience got packets of goodies, including a yellow wristband and t-shirt. He had lost the wristband and I offered him one…he initially declined. I told him I understood but also mentioned I am a survivor, native Texan, active in the LAF…and the wristbands came from Texas…well, he decided he wanted one! Kewl! He put it on right then and there.
I’ll see Dave off at the start and then move the truck I guess, over to the finish point to see if I can find a place to set up and perhaps film a bit. I’ll at least get some stills…
I am so proud of him…gee, this is fun! July 08 Here We Are......in Stanley, Wisconsin, in a comfortable hotel room complete with OLN. We've had a yummy dinner of pasta and now are sprawled on a king-size bed watching the evening recap of today's Tour stage on OLN. Today was a time trial (TT), appropriate since Dave is racing tomorrow!
We drove the course once and then Dave decided he wanted to ride it. So it was back to the hotel, him on the TT bike and me following along in the truck, hazard lights flashing and some tunes cranked up. It was fun...a bit of chill-out time for me and I was so proud pacing him...that's my man out there!
We were told about an Italian restaurant cloe by, so went and got some pasta take-away. YUM. Well-fed, we're just chilling.
Baby is at her "hotel" in Grand Rapids. Yes, it's a bit of a drive over there, but I can rest easy knowng she is in a good place.
I've got my cow bell, some colored chalk, two cameras, and the laptop with Webcam. Not sure what I'll do tomorrow, but I'm prepared for whatever strikes my fancy. The course is just over 13 miles, so Dave's ride will be around the 30-minute mark. We'll be there well early, so Dave can warm up, get changed, etc. I may do some filming with the Webcam or may just wander with my camera(s). Or I might just nap!
Wisconsin is nice, but we both are of the opinion that Minnesota is prettier, more striking. The terrain here (the course) reminds me a bit of my part of Texas around Brenham...I was thinking I would like to ride the course myself. It is pretty...but we like our corner of MN better.
Speaking of which, we are really enjoying our new place. It is a home in the true sense of the word...very cozy, very comfy, just the right size. Baby is really enjoying her back yard, lying in the grass soaking up the sunshine just about every day.
Well, it won't be a real early night...or a real late one...but I sure could just sprawl out and veg. Guess that's what I'll do. The laptop's running on batteries right now and I want to charge it up fully for tomorrow.
Peace and love!
